A reading by Tamar Yoseloff, with improvised sound composition by Douglas Benford and imagery by Vici MacDonald
• When read aloud, Formerly’s insistent rap-like rhythms and percussive sound repetitions conjure up the vibrant, seedy streets in which the poems are set. In order to bring them fully to life, Tamar Yoseloff collaborated with the sound artist Douglas Benford to create a “soundscape” – a live, semi-improvised sonic backdrop to a reading of the full sonnet sequence, accompanied by a projection of the corresponding images. Capturing the forlorn, sometimes menacing atmosphere of both the poems and photographs, this soundscape has been performed at the launch of each Formerly exhibition, and also at London’s experimental Horse Improv Club.
